This report provides a high-level summary of results from the 2025 technology and arts learning area assessment programme conducted as part of the Curriculum Insights and Progress Study (Curriculum Insights). It includes findings from assessments of student achievement, along with selected findings from contextual questionnaire data collected from students, teachers, and school leaders. The report complements the A3 dashboards used to report the main findings from the 2025 programme.

Curriculum context

The learning area assessments were administered in Term 3 of 2025. In 2025, the New Zealand Curriculum (2007) remained in place for technology and the arts. As such, it provided the basis for the technology and the arts learning area study.

About the report

The report is organised into 4 chapters:

  • Chapter 1 provides an overview of Curriculum Insights and the 2025 learning area assessment programme.
  • Chapters 2 and 3 present results for technology and the arts, respectively.
  • Chapter 4 presents general contextual data collected as part of the 2025 programme, providing broader context that largely extends beyond the technology and arts learning areas.

The report is supported by an interactive data window available on the Curriculum Insights website. The data window provides detailed statistics by year level and demographic group for the achievement and contextual findings reported here. It also provides access to statistics for additional contextual topics and questionnaire items that are not discussed in this report.
