Māori Language Levels
The directory shows the level of Māori language immersion student are receiving based on the number of hours per week they are being taught the curriculum in te reo Māori.
For a school to be in this directory at least one student must be in Māori Language Immersion levels 1 or 2, that is, they are being taught the curriculum in te reo Māori for at least 51% of the time.
The Māori language immersion levels are as follows:
- MLL1 Curriculum is taught in/through the use of Maori Language 81 – 100% of the time (20 – 25 hours per week)
- MLL2 Curriculum is taught in/through the use of Maori Language 51 – 80% of the time (12.5 – 20 hours per week)
- MLL3 Curriculum is taught in/through the use of Maori Language 31 – 50% of the time (7.5 - 12.5 hours per week)
- MLL-4a Curriculum is taught in/through the use of Maori language 12 – 30% of the time (3 – 7.5 hours per week)
- MLL-4b Learner is learning te reo Maori as a separate subject for at least 3 hours per week
- MLL-5 Learner is learning te reo Maori as a separate subject for less than 3 hours per week
Kaupapa Māori Education (KME) Peak Body Affiliation
The directory also shows where a school has an affiliation with a kaupapa Māori education peak body. There are two kaupapa Māori education peak bodies that a school can affiliate with:

- Ngā Kura ā Iwi o Aotearoa Inc
