This report, aimed primarily at policy makers, describes our first use of advanced statistical techniques in the Curriculum Insights and Progress Study (Curriculum Insights). It demonstrates how these methods can be used to reveal key patterns and relationships in data from the study.

Curriculum context
The foundation area assessments were administered in Term 4 of 2023. The assessments were informed by the relevant learning area statements from the 2023 draft version of the New Zealand Curriculum. At the time of the assessments, schools were not required to use any of the draft learning area statements.
