Curriculum context

The learning area assessments were administered in Term 3 of 2025 and the foundation area assessments in Term 4 2025.

• For the learning area assessments, both Technology and the Arts were informed by the versions of the curriculum available at the time (the 2007 version of the New Zealand Curriculum).
• For the foundation area assessments:
  Maths was based on the 2023 draft version of the Mathematics and Statistics learning area of the New Zealand Curriculum. Reading and Writing was based on the latest available version of the English learning area of the New Zealand Curriculum (October 2024—Years 3 and 6; March 2025—Year 8).

About the report

This report comprises 2 chapters and 6 appendices. Chapter 1 explains the sampling approach used in the study, whereas Chapter 2 describes the development and implementation of the 2025 programme. Appendices 1 to 4 provide additional detail about the assessments that were part of the programme.
