Introduction

This report summarises the latest available information on international enrolments – particularly fee-paying enrolments – across New Zealand’s eight universities. Information from the Export Education Levy is presented on the trend in university enrolments from 2003 to 2011, the regional breakdown from 2007 to 2011, and the main source countries for international students (and their respective values). Information from the Tertiary Single Data Return is presented on the main subject areas in which international students are enrolled, and on the trend in enrolments of international Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) students.
