The amount of money invested in running the tertiary education system in New Zealand is substantial. In 2004/2005, around $3.3 billion (GST exclusive) was appropriated by the government to spend on the tertiary education system. With such substantial sums involved it is important that the outcomes for individuals, taxpayers and the government of this expenditure are monitored.
This new report – Outcomes of the New Zealand tertiary education system – a synthesis of the evidence – draws together the findings from a variety of statistical and analytical reports on the outcomes of the New Zealand tertiary education system. By collating findings in this manner, a clearer picture can emerge of the benefits of tertiary education for New Zealanders.

- The attainment of tertiary qualifications by the New Zealand working-age population
