Summary
New Zealand was one of more than 40 countries to participate in the Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) during 1994 and 1995. Three populations of students were assessed in both mathematics and science in order to gain information on students' knowledge and understanding in the two subject areas. In addition to achievement data, background information was also gathered from students, teachers, and school principals, as well as there being an exploratory study on mathematics and science curricula.
