Schooling Statistics
The following links lead to statistical tables relating to schooling.
The Ministry of Education collects snap-shot data, called Roll Returns, from all New Zealand schools as at 1 March and 1 July each year. These returns are the main source of statistical information on schools. The March data is mainly used for schools' resourcing purposes while the July data is used more for trend analysis as detailed information on age and ethnicity are collected at this time.
Statistics presented on this web site mainly represent the 1 July data unless otherwise stated. The data collected in this census gives details of:
- Enrolments by school type, region and district
- Student ethnicity
- Māori Medium Education enrolments
- Subject enrolments
- Student age and year of schooling
- Pacific Language Education
- Overseas students
