Data Interpretation

The National Standards have been designed to support the national curriculum.  The standards describe the core capabilities that students need at specific stages of schooling in order to access and meet the demands of all curriculum learning areas.

Where teaching and learning is guided and directed by The New Zealand Curriculum, schools monitor and report progress and achievement using National Standards.  The National Standards focus on reading, writing and mathematics in years 1 to 8.

Identical information is available for the region’s territorial authorities using the drop down menu above.  For other territorial authorities first choose the appropriate region from the drop down menu above.  Identical information for schools can be found on the Find a School pages.

Notes:

  1. ‘x’ = A category, for example, Boys, has less than 5 students, or if left unmasked the data may easily lead to deducing other masked values.
  2. ‘p’ = less than 4 students in this category, for example Boys, are performing at or above.
  3. Ethnicity is prioritised. Not all ethnic groups are shown on the table so summing the ethnicities shown may not add to the total.

Notes:

  1. Where there are fewer than 5 students in the ‘Total’ for a Student Type or Year Level, all OTJs for that group are masked with an ‘x’. Or if left unmasked the data may easily lead to deducing other masked values.
  2. ‘p’ = less than 4 students in this year level, are performing at or above.
