This is the main page for vendors of student management systems (SMS) with regard to school roll returns, that is, the collection of student data from schools.

This page is specifically developed for the vendors of student management systems and focuses on school roll returns. Information on this page is often technical in nature.

Code sets made available here are specifically for vendors. These code sets may be pre-relese versions and should not be used by schools until they are formally released as they will provide invalid results. Schools looking for current information on roll returns should use the following links:

Roll Return and Audit Testing (2009)

This is part of the data sharing framework for SMSs at the Ministry of Education. SMS vendors who wish to participate in roll return and audit testing:
  • please read the information sheet below
  • then complete an application form (either as a company or an individual applicant) and send to the Ministry by 13 August 2008. Contact and address details are on the information sheet.

Test Scripts and Test Plan for 2008 Roll return and Audit requirements

The test scripts (x10) are provided by the Ministry for the SMS vendors participating in Data Sharing approval for Roll returns (as part of the Data Sharing Framework). The test plan outlines the goals, requirements and schedule for the testing phase.

Ministry Validation Tool 2008 version 2.14.5

This program accepts the moe data file produced by a school's Student Management system. The program then validates the data according to Ministry specifications and if the data is error free generates the Roll return tables for either March or July.

The program runs within a windows platform and is installed to the PC via the Setup.exe file, the application will default install to C:\Program files\SMS2008Validation2.14.5. It is recommended that earlier versions of the Validation tool be uninstalled before installing a new version. The program is not compatible with the Apple Mac system.
