Summary
This report is part of the School Roll Summary Report: July 2009. It provides a snapshot of Pasifika-medium education in New Zealand Schools as at 1 July 2009. Pasifika-medium education is where a Pasifika language is the medium of instruction for more than three hours per week.

Pasifika-medium education is where a Pasifika language is the medium of instruction for more than three hours per week.
Pasifika-medium Education Rolls
A total of 34 schools offered Pasifika-medium education in 2009: 23 primary schools, nine secondary schools and two composite schools. This was two fewer than in July 2008.There were 1,465 students involved in Pasifika-medium education. This is a decrease of 176 students (10 per cent) since July 2008.
Pasifika-medium as a Secondary Subject
There were 3,064 enrolments in a Pacific language at secondary level. This is an increase of 255 (9.1 per cent) since July 2008. Samoan was the most studied Pacific language with 70.5 per cent of all enrolments in a Pacific language.| Excel Download |
