As at 1 July 2008 the overall average number of enrolled hours per child per week was 18.9 hours. The data can be viewed by a range of dimensions. Average Weekly Hours data are available from the following tables:

Average Weekly Hours of Attendance in Licensed Early Childhood Services data dimensions

The dimensions are:

Age:

The age of the child enrolled in the licensed early childhood service.

Authority:

The ownership of the early childhood service that the child is enrolled in. This can be Community Based or Privately Owned.

Gender:

The gender of the child that is enrolled, i.e. male or female.

Operating Structure:

Describes whether a service that the child is enrolled in operates in sessions, or as a full day service, or as a mixture of the two.

Type of Service:

The type of licensed service that the child is enrolled in. For example, Kindergarten, Education & Care Service. Data is not collected from Kōhanga Reo, Casual Education & Care and the Correspondence School.

Education Region:

The education region of the service that the child is enrolled in. These are four administrative regions created by the Ministry of Education and aligned with the Ministry’s four regional offices.  Care must be taken when interpreting the geographic location of Homebased services as services will be listed under the location of the co-ordinator rather than the actual location of the service.

Regional Council:

The regional council area of the service that the child is enrolled in. Regional council boundaries are defined by Statistics New Zealand. Care must be taken when interpreting the geographic location of Homebased services as services will be listed under the location of the co-ordinator rather than the actual location of the service.

Territorial Authority:

The territorial authority area of the service that the child is enrolled in. Territorial authority boundaries are defined by Statistics New Zealand. Care must be taken when interpreting the geographic location of Homebased services as services will be listed under the location of the co-ordinator rather than the actual location of the service.

Year:

Data is presented for 2000 through to 2008.
