Authority:
The ownership of the early childhood service, that is, Community Based or Privately Owned. Note that the Correspondence school is state owned and has its own authority.
Operating Structure:
Describes whether a service operates in sessions, or as a full day service, or as a mixture of the two. Note the Correspondence school is listed as its own operating structure.
Education Region:
The education region the service is located in. These are four administrative regions created by the Ministry of Education and aligned with the Ministry’s four regional offices. The Correspondence School is shown separately as it covers multiple education regions throughout the country. Care must be taken when interpreting the geographic location of Homebased services as services will be listed under the location of the co-ordinator rather than the actual location of the service.
Regional Council:
The regional council area the service is located in. Regional council boundaries are defined by Statistics New Zealand. The Correspondence School is shown separately as it covers multiple regional council boundaries. Care must be taken when interpreting the geographic location of Homebased services as services will be listed under the location of the co-ordinator rather than the actual location of the service.
Territorial Authority:
The territorial authority area the service is located in. Territorial authority boundaries are defined by Statistics New Zealand. The Correspondence School is shown separately as it covers multiple territorial authority boundaries. Care must be taken when interpreting the geographic location of Homebased services as services will be listed under the location of the co-ordinator rather than the actual location of the service.
Type of Service:
The type of licensed service, for example, Kindergarten, Te Kōhanga Reo, etc.
Year:
Data is presented for 2000 through to 2009.
