The Tertiary Education Strategies sets out the government’s expectations and priorities for New Zealand’s tertiary education system. They provide guidance for the Tertiary Education Commission’s investment decisions and act as a reference point for the government’s policy making and relationship with the sector.

The Ministry of Education is responsible for monitoring the progress of the tertiary education sector towards the goals of the Tertiary Education Strategy.

Moving Through: Tertiary Education Strategy Monitoring 2010-2012 This report covers progress against the 2010-15 Tertiary Education Strategy for the period to 2012. The information in this report is intended to inform Ministers of the overall progress being made against the Strategy; provide system-level, contextual information to inform ongoing policy and planning by the Ministry of Education, the Tertiary Education Commission, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, and other government agencies; provide context for the monitoring of the tertiary education Crown Entities (Tertiary Education Commission, New Zealand Qualifications Authority, Education New Zealand and Careers New Zealand); provide alerts to any possible need to reconsider the policy mix; feed into developing future priorities and strategy, including the next Tertiary Education Strategy and inform broader public debate about the direction of the tertiary education system.

The report is accompanied by a set of cross-strategy indicators that provide enduring measures of the overall health of the tertiary education system.

Facing the challenge: Tertiary Education Strategy monitoring 2010

This is the 2010 annual monitoring report for the Tertiary Education Strategy. It provides baseline data to monitor progress against the 2010-15 Strategy. The report is framed around the seven priority areas of the Strategy. Each section discusses key indicators relating to the priority, includes a summary of key points and identifies key challenges for achieving the goals of the Strategy.

The report is accompanied by a set of cross-strategy indicators that provide enduring measures of the overall health of the tertiary education system. These can be downloaded as an excel spreadsheet.

Lining Up? The influence of the Tertiary Education Strategy 2002/07 on tertiary education organisation profile objectives This report presents an analysis of the 2005/07 and 2006/08 profiles of tertiary education institutions and a sample of industry training organisations. This analysis looked at the organisational objectives in the profiles and mapped them to the Tertiary Education Strategy to establish a sense of where change is planned across the various areas of the strategy, and by which types of organisations. The analysis provides a view of governance and senior management perspectives of important changes in their organisations in relation to the Tertiary Education Strategy.

This is the first in an annual series of reports that monitors progress against the goals of the Tertiary Education Strategy 2002-2007 (TES).

It sets out the state of the tertiary education system before the implementation of the TES, and the associated reforms. It explains how progress against the TES will be monitored over the next few years and it provides us with a series of measures against which we record progress over the life of the TES.
