PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) 2006

PISA 2006, the third cycle of a three-yearly survey of 15-year-olds in over 40 countries, concentrates on three key areas of knowledge and skills: reading literacy, mathematical literacy and scientific literacy. This cycle concentrates on scientific literacy.

This report describes New Zealand’s results for mathematical literacy in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2006, which covers 57 countries. It expands on information already released in international and national reports in December 2007. In 2006, mathematical literacy was a minor focus in PISA. This report also includes information on New Zealand results from 2003.

PISA 2006: How ready are our 15-year-olds for tomorrow’s world?

This document provides a summary of the results from New Zealand’s participation in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2006. This assessment involved almost 5,000 New Zealand 15 year-old students, looking at their performance in science literacy (main focus), and reading and mathematics literacy (both minor focus areas). It was administered in New Zealand in July and August 2006.
