An overview

The government has a number of distinct but interrelated roles in the tertiary education sector in New Zealand including the provision of resources for the delivery of education; operating as a regulator by administering educational legislation; promulgating regulations and guidelines; monitoring compliance; and monitoring the effectiveness and efficiency of educational delivery.

Government policy is developed within a framework that aims to create an environment for learning as the basis for New Zealand’s future economic and social wellbeing.
