Funding decile
A schools decile indicated the extent to which the school draws its students from the low socio-economic communities. Decile 1 schools are the 10% of schools with the highest proportion of students from the low socio-economic communities, whereas decile 10 schools are the 10% of schools with the lowest proportion of these students. A schools decile does not indicate the overall socio-economic mix of the school.
Funding Year Level
The Funding Year Level measures the number of years of schooling a student has received and provides the Ministry of Education with a method of counting students for funding and staffing purposes. The Funding Year Level for most students is based on the date they first started school. It is independent of the way schools are organised and independent of the particular programme of study that a student may undertake. It is therefore possible for a contributing school (year 1-6 learning levels) to have students in Funding Year Level 7, or secondary schools that finish at learning level year 13 to have students in Funding Year Level 14 or 15.
Bilingual and Immersion Schools
These are schools where the entire roll is taught in a given medium (i.e. Māori or Pasifika) for 51-100% of the time.
Bilingual and Immersion Unit
These are schools that have a class or unit within the school that learns in a given medium (i.e. Māori or Pasifika) for 51-100% of the time.
